I've already posted this in the Idea Thread--however I wanted to make this idea available for discussion by other players---I'd also like it if players gave suggestions for how it should be done and give me their support. : P We could do a petition to show how much people like the idea--if people like the idea.

Here's the idea:

Introduction: S4 players even now are still crying over the loss of the lobby rooms where they could chat along with the appearance of their avatar and even jump around. While this idea won't exactly comfort them directly--as this will act as an actual 'game mode' rather than a lobby or waiting area...it might satisfy them that they at least have a place where they can relax and chat without being blamed for farming or having to worry about getting attacked by point mongers. It will possibly also provide people a place to do things like 'practice jumps' without having to worry about someone scoring, or killing them in the locked room they're in...and it also PROBABLY will give GMs a break from even having to worry about that aspect of the game. (As once this happens the act of creating a chill room will supply a means to MAKE SURE all that is done in the room is either chatting about or practicing jumps/free-styling parkor.)

This also may make a suitable replacement for the practice rooms--though originally I thought of this as being a kind of 'private chat room' for specified use. Either you can lock it and just chat with your friends, or you can make it public and have a specific topic tacked on.

Design (Suggestions):

Maps:
The Chill Room Game Mode will have access to all TD, Seige, and DM maps as those are where most jumps are important to learn. Perhaps it will also have a few maps of it's own such a 'School Yard/Classroom' Map (Inspired by this Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bfI8HXL5stg) which might take advantage of a particular feature I and a few others would like to suggest this mode to have called 'Battle Zones' and 'Safe Zones'.

Safe Zones: These areas are basically places where you can't be hurt no matter what which allows you to do exactly what this room is intended for...to relax. You can socialize, play paper-rock-scissors, hold S4 Trivia Events and various other community related things in a more orderly fashion in such areas--not to mention have easier access to understand just to whom you're speaking with and what their avatars look like. (Which is more appealing to me than just staring at someone's name. Lots of others will agree with me.)

You can't use weapons in these zones as they're not even present on the character's person--however they might have something on screen that indicates what weapons they'd have in the battle zone if they ever went in. The only abilities you are allotted in this state is to use skills like anchor and wings and the ability to dash, dodge, and wall jump so that you can practice jumps and freestyle parkor at will without worry of ever being attacked. Naturally these zones are much bigger than battle zones. (Otherwise there'd be no point in trying to practice jumps and things.

Battle Zones: These areas in the map are small and contained with-in the map with a box that separates the player from the safe zone, is not breakable, and does not allow you to harm anyone outside of the battle zone. Here weapons are allowed to be used to the fullest. Naturally here you will be able to do things like practice on targets, fight other players, or just futz around with a new weapon so you can figure out how it is used. No pen or experience gain comes of these rooms at all so even though you kill players here it's purely friendly and practice---so it does not take away from the need to play actual game matches to receive pen and experience to level.

Room Features (Er...OTHER Room Features):

1. Availability: This game mode if used should be one of the first that one can start on your own without having to have other players with you--and yet still be join-able by anyone whom notices the room's present. I also believe these Chill Rooms should have their own tab in the Server Waiting Area so that they don't clutter up actual games--and allow people to easily pick them out from actual games. (Without clicking them on accident too.)

2. Participation List: Not unlike the lobby from the past it will have a list of people whom are present inside of the room with their weapons next to their names (As suggested in the Safe Zone box) With this list you can add people to your friend/block list without having to be in the room lobby or in the server waiting room. Perhaps you can also read about their equipment to find out what kind of gear they're wearing for practicing purposes (Or just to allow people to show off their gear.)

3. Events: Naturally all events will still work here as long as they're not PEN and EXP related---for example the coin event would still work here. Naturally such a room might also be perfectly capable of starting up player created events as well---It all just depends on how creative people get.

This is pretty much all of my idea so far. I intend to update it, and keep posting it until I see this being added to the game. : P I'm extremely persistent so expect to see it every month with updated suggestions and designs from the community. I think we can use something like this to bring our community closer--and make it easier to teach newer people how to play the game if they desire to learn. That said it'd be great if this game mode was often used in the Free Server channel by people interested in making S4 League become a game of absolute skill unlike any other game before or after it.

Hmn...Yeah those are good ideas.

The one I like in particular is the idea for having the toggle ball/crown/chaser feature--which would allow various advantages for this room being used as a practice area in both safe and battle zones.

Examples:

Fumbi Toggle: Naturally this would allow players to measure how much they can do while under Fumbi effects. After all there is nothing more important in TD than understanding your limits and learning how to manage your sp while carrying the ball.

Chaser Toggle: This naturally would allow a person to find out just how much damage they can deal out as chaser---as well as how much they can take. Perhaps in the battle zones where this would be most relevant one could practice their survival against chaser status players. This in turn will increase overall enjoyment of Chaser rooms because people will be able to practice dealing with them.

Captain Crown Toggle: This of course is actually good for multiple reasons. Naturally captain games are quite a bit different since players don't even die instantly from daggers in this game without AP clothes/weapons being involved. This could allow people to learn just how much damage they need to deal out in order to properly handle that playing mode...and thus probably will make it more popular.

Other uses in training would naturally prolong practice matches in Plasma Sword battles, and other weapons so that players can learn how to use, dodge, and counter attacks that they normally wouldn't be able to survive in actual battle.

Perhaps these toggles would be achievable in chat commands that only work when you're in this game mode? That way we wouldn't have to worry about having all these buttons and such...

I'm not sure about powerful bonuses as I don't see how that'd be relevant to testing anything beyond what the toggle stuff would allow. I think we're good with the sp regeneration stuff, and the system of skills we already have since that's generally what we'd be practicing to understand in the first place.

However the reason this is in the agree section is because IF they decide to limit ammo on us from now on we NEED to have infinite reload.

I think this would be nice for obvious reasons. Perhaps we can make chat commands for spawning arcade enemies and such? It'd be nice if the old targets from the licence test made a return as well.

Allowing players to see what they can do. Even if all HP is reduced from a target player before the HP regenerates, players do not die. The HP is just more of a hit-counter.
  • While this mode is in effect(Checked), players do not gain EXP/PEN in the mode.
  • While this mode is in effect(Checked), all equipment, gear, weapons, skills, etc do not expire or need repairs.
  • Players can practice jumps, moves, tactics and everything with ease and comfort in this mode, especially since there is no time limit and players can not join and kill them.
  • Players can enter this type of room and mode at any time, and also leave the match back to the room's lobby at any time to adjust what they are wearing or to simply just leave.
  • Optional - When this mode is Checked, a drop down menu appears allowing more in-depth restrictions: Being able to attack or not attack at all | Able to kill or not kill | Unlimited SP/Limited SP | 12 Players Total, 16 Players Total, 24 Players Total allowed in room | etc.


This would give people the ultimate ability to practice anything. Whether it be aiming with guns on moving targets, or seeing spread shot accuracy without players dying and how much damage it does. It would help SO players learn what they truly can and can not do versus other weapons with other weapons. Players can practice everything without the worry of death and waiting for count-down timer, as well as match time limits. But more importantly, players will be able to enjoy just roaming around, making videos for youtube, clan videos if they please, and even practice jumps and tactics.
In maps like the ones that allow you to fall down and die, when players would fall or jump down there, they'd simply be instantly teleported back to where they first spawned.

^ This would be much more simple and easier for most players. Still based on what you want, but with more simplicity. I think players would enjoy such a game mode option. People, especially clans, would take big advantage of this and enjoy truly and finally being able to practice in the utmost ultimate way and form yet.

Anyway...I like the idea and I suppose I can put it on the front page as an alternative--though I feel like somehow we'd be missing out on other aspects that the other idea had to offer. Granted this at least would eliminate the real need for safe zones and battle zones due to simply just not being able to die in this situation and merely using the hp as a counter.

If you'll allow I'd like to discuss aspects of this idea further to make sure that if we do settle on this as an alternative that it still has the same advantages as the other idea. (I apologize if I appear not to fully understand what your idea in tells...but I've just returned from college. xD My brain is mush.)

I will however note that I really do want this to have as much strength in the social area as it does in the practice area. After all I did not create this idea with the intention of improving practice methods only. I also want a place where I could hang out and chat without having to stare at a boring UI with no character from this. (Just in-case I haven't said that enough.)

Then again I suppose a number of functions could be put aside to be used in another way or we can do with out all for the sake of that.

Adding a map for freeroam as server lobby and just being able to start a match alone (no pen/exp at the end ofc) is more than enough for me.

but instead of a new game mode, it might be better if you make it like a new lobby or a "Park"kind of thing, like they have in other games like TalesRunner or Lost Saga. So it would be more social.

Agreed---however I have a feeling there's a specific reason why this hasn't been done in the first place...So I'm trying to acknowledge that fact by starting small. Not to mention I really like the idea of being able to make rooms like these private so that I don't have to deal with EVERY PLAYER in S4 the second I go in. Lol

I'd personally appreciate it more as a place where I can hangout with friends if at all possible when it's locked, and meet new people when it's open.

Course let us not forget if it DID become a server lobby---that'd also require a huge new map that can support hundreds of players being present and jumping around...not to mention the battle zone areas would probably be strained horribly by the heavy amount of players.

Not to mention it'd be nice if this was something of S4's and not entirely something borrowed from other games. :3 They seem to like being different from everyone else so far. (At least that's what it seems like.)

What ideas do you feel need to be added/left out? What could make it better?

It'd be great if I could get the creativity of S4 on my side. : P
