this short guide describes how to set up the IRC client mIRC. The aim is successfully connecting in the Euirc.net, and the entry in the Maestia channel.
The text-based "Internet Relay Chat" (IRC) is primarily used for conversations between many users.
To participate in IRC, an IRC client is not necessarily required, but it greatly improves the clarity in the use of multiple networks. The IRC client "mIRC" used in this guide can be downloaded here.
"mIRC" only works on Windows, Linux and MacOSX , there are alternatives such as Xchat etc. but that will further be discussed here.
Download and installation:
- download the client from here.
- double click on the download file to start the installation
- Desired path (example: "c: / program files / mIRC") specify and finish the installation
"mIRC" should start automatically after installation. Should that not be the case -> double click on desktop icon's.
The "mIRC" should now open and the "mIRC Options" window should now pop up. Now we come to the next necessary step.
Setting up the client:
On the right side (red box) you give in your name "Full Name" and your e-mail address in "Email address". This information does not need to comply with your real data and is not relevant for the subsequent filing in Quakenet. In "Nickname" you give in your desired nickname and in "alternative" you can give in a second nickname if your wanted nickname isn't available anymore.

In the menu on the left side you click on the sub-item named "server". There you will find a list of all presented IRC servers. Now click on the button "Add" and it opens another small window.
"Description" = Maestia
"IRC Server" = irc.euirc.net
"Ports" = 6665-6669
"Group" = Maestia
Simply register as described in the picture and click on the "OK" button on the left (red arrow). Now the window should close itself and it ends up back in the server selection where now the "Maestia" folder should be. Double click on the folder and a server will appear named Maestia.
Then please select it and right click on "Select" and then you will need to get back into the "Connect" window in which now the maestia server is specified.

The worst is already done at this point. Since we do not want to make our settings again when the program starts, , we will now go into the menu "Options" category "Connect". There simply deselect the "pop-up connect dialog on start-up"window , and you're done.

Now click on the button "perform". A new window should open. In the box "Perform Commands" you can enter commands that are executed on each new connection to the server. But first, let's click on "Add" and add the network group "Maestia", then select the pull-down menu "Maestia" So you can easily make mIRC automatically join a channel when you've built up a connection to Quakenet. To do this you simply give: "/ j# maestia" in the TextBox. This is the join command in mIRC you can use to enter a channel. You can command the alternative, of course, in the command line type of mIRC if you do not want to use this feature perfom. Finally, still use the checkbox for "Enable perform on connect" and confirm with "OK". The same applies to the "options", click "OK" again.

If you did everything correctly, you only need to click on the "Connect" icon (yellow lightning right above the main window) and after a short time you find yourself already in Maestia channel.
When you don't want to install mIRC on you PC you can also acces it online, click on this link
