RT lag

Postby DuZo » Thu May 19, 2011 10:25 pm

Hello.

I'm having (R)(T) lag issues on every server and every room i try to play at.
I always have it as (R)(T) lag.

The funny thing is, my brother, who uses the same connection (and has the same anti-virus, windows XP, and only windows firewall is the firewall we have), isn't lagging and doesn't have his ping as (R)(T).
When we're in a room together, he sees me as 60~100 ms (R)(T), when it should be ~10 ms.

I tried reinstalling S4, disabling my anti-virus, and disabling windows firewall. Nothing helps.
I'm using a router, and PC is connected to it with a wire, same as my brother's PC.

I have no idea what's the problem and since my brother doesn't lag when we use the same connection, it makes it even weirder.
I have nothing open except MSN, my anti-virus ESET NOD32, and driver-programs.

I've added S4 and the ports on the sticky to exceptions on windows firewall, and put S4's folder as an exception on NOD32.

My connection is fast enough for games, and my PC handles S4 without any FPS lag.

Does anyone have any idea what might be causing it?
Thanks in advance.

Anti-viruses aren't the only firewalls you have. Your modem/routers have them too. The best way to fix problems with RTing is by port-forwarding so that Alaplaya's servers are allowed a connection with you. The link on how to port forward is right here.

support-f211/how-to-port-forward-how-to-create-a-pingplotter-t432392.html

(R)(T) stands for Relay Tunnel. This is caused by the fact that your router is blocking connections with other players so you're being forced to connect to Alaplaya's server causing your game to become peer2server2peer instead of the usual peer2peer server which is the reason you lag with someone right next to you.

My brother who is using THE EXACT SAME connection through the same router has NO (R)(T) problem; his ping is perfect and never goes above 100ms (unless someone in the room lives far/has slow connection).

If my router was blocking it; wouldn't he have (R)(T) lag as well?

Sorry I didn't catch that, for some reason I thought I read that both of you had RT problems. All the same, try looking at that port forward thread still, theres computer-sided port forwarding too which might be the cause.

Computer side?
I added it to windows firewall exceptions and i even tried disabling it.

Where else?

The follwing ports that are recommended for S4 League are as follows:

UDP-6112
TCP-62607
TCP-62608
TCP-62609
TCP-28002
TCP-28008
TCP-28012
TCP-28013

To access your Ports, first go into your Control Panel and click on your Firewall icon. From there, go to your Exceptions tab and click on the ""Add Ports" Button. In the name field, it can be filled as anything as long as you can easily remember it for which Port you set it as. (Ex: S4_TCP_28002). Afterwards, set one of the Ports into the Ports field. You must have all of the Ports that have been listed on the Exceptions List and have it checked off the box next to their name as well to be bypassed.

You can add the specific ports to the firewall exceptions. But if disabling it didn't work the only thing left to blame is theres some sort of setting on your computer causing the problem.
